Our History

Intro

This is our story of the Lord leading us to move to the Denver area in March 2024 for the purpose of laboring in the gospel of Christ to raise up Christian Church in Denver. The Lord called, and by His great mercy, we answered. In faith, we left the churches that we were serving for many years. Churches that gave us much equipping, learning, growth and love. We were sent out by many saints in those churches that were very near and dear to us to expand His kingdom. Though difficult to do, through His constraining love, we were able to answer His call. Ever since we took those steps of faith, we’ve been left astounded by how the Lord Jesus has been able to use unworthy vessels such as us to move in the lives of so many people here in Denver. As you read about our path to Denver below, we hope you can be touched by the Holy Spirit to join us in this spiritual fight to see Christian Church in Denver stand as a living testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Grace and peace be yours to the fullest,

Keith Dolcy & Daniel Kim

Our Acts 13 Moment

On December 15, 2023, during a meeting with some leading brothers in a fellowship of churches, we all felt the Lord guiding us to set apart two families for the furtherance of the gospel in the Rocky Mountain region. Our two families (the Dolcys and the Kims) were the two families the Lord led to make the move to Denver.

Experiencing the Lay of the Land

We began to see the Lord’s move matching our fellowship and prayer when we first visited Denver for two weeks in January 2024. We were timid at first, testing the waters to see if we were correct in following the Lord in this way. The response of the Holy Spirit took us by surprise as we encountered many people who were excited and willing to read the Bible with us. This was a big encouragement and confirmation that the Lord was indeed leading us to Denver for His sake. The Bible studies we started during our two-week trip even continued virtually through Zoom when we returned back to Ohio. This further assured us that the Lord was with us and was calling us to labor for Him in Denver. Hence, in March 2024, our families made the move to Colorado and immediately started meeting together each Sunday as Christian Church in Denver with a goal of allowing the Lord to build us up into a church testimony that expresses who He is. It is not the size of the church or the reach of its activities that matters, but rather, the existence of a church testimony because that’s what impacts the lives people have with the Lord most.

A Testimony of the Church in Denver

What does a church testimony look like? It’s when there’s a group of people called out of the world by the Lord into His marvelous light to declare His excellencies and majesty. It’s when those people now choose to live a life together because of the Lord and for the Lord, and are daily being transformed by their life and walk with Him. It’s when a brother asks the Lord, “why do I have to go this way and live my life like this,” and the Lord can simply tell him, “Because it pleases me.” And it’s when that same brother can find rest in this kind of response from the Lord. It’s when someone is asked, do you have any prayer requests, and what is most pressing on their heart is not something related to their own life, career, or interests, but that the Lord would open their roommate’s heart to the gospel of Jesus Christ, just like He opened Lydia’s heart in Acts 16:14. It’s a life laboring side-by-side with the Lord to accomplish what is on the Lord’s heart. It’s where the Body of Christ, with its unity in spirit and diversity in function, can be experienced, lived out, and testified of. It’s where the members understand that all the believers in Christ are one, and that the Lord uses this oneness to build His church and demonstrate to the world that they are His masterpiece, soon to crush Satan under their feet.

A church testimony is a place where every member who puts themselves in can grow in their relationship with the Lord because Christ and Christ alone is being pursued. Christ alone is the message, Christ alone is expressed (not ourselves!), and Christ as the Head is the one being clung to.  You can look and see Christ increasing in the members, while they themselves are decreasing because they’re experiencing Christ in their daily lives. A church testimony is not title-led or office-led, rather, all the members together are actively participating in the Lord’s work of building His church! Participating through their prayers, fellowship, praises, gospel preaching, and Bible studies that enrich others and bring them to Christ. And also, participating through their pursuit of loving the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength! It’s where not just the leaders are able to bless the other members, but the other members are also storehouses of blessing to the whole church (leaders included) because we are all pursuing Christ together and are growing in our love towards Him.

It’s when you can see a people living for heaven according to God’s way, God’s heart, under God’s authority. They have the Holy Spirit leading them, shaping them and working in them, and ultimately conforming them to the image of Christ, the Son of God, Most High. This is the type of church testimony we want. We don’t just want to have a group of brothers and sisters in Christ gathering Sunday after Sunday for the sake of fulfilling some religious obligation. No! So you may ask, why are we in Denver? What’s the purpose of us being here? It’s to strive to practically have this as we get together every week! May the Lord have mercy and grant Christian Church in Denver to be this kind of testimony, not just in name, but in all reality and truth.
